Apology and Explanation:
If you’ve ever been here before (all two or three of you…), you’ll recognize that things seem a bit different in terms of appearance in these parts. This is neither by design nor intention. Here’s the real story……..
Given that I somehow ended up with a little time on my hands over the holiday, I (as is my wont) once again started up a new project. You can find out about that as this web site develops, so stay tuned. Anyway, while playing around with some neat web site development software called RapidWeaver, I put together a site to host this new group and attempted to post it to my server at BlueHost. In the process of getting this done, I wiped out part of my old website. That means time for an overall redesign.
What Goes On Here:
El Rancho Deluxe is a little hard to describe. It’s more than the individuals involved and more than what we do related to music and community. Originally intended as an outreach tool for a very small recording and sound production studio, it’s gently morphed into something a bit different. Having a strong interest in music and performing, I’ve been mucking about in that area for the last twenty some odd years. Over the course of that time, lots of interesting and very talented people have come up on the radar; most of them people you’ve probably never heard of before.
Also, as ego was let go after years of performing, I was liberated by the realization that music is a lot more fun when you stop trying to be successful at it. The connection between music stardom and talent is tenuous at best; with the really talented performers being just down the street in many cases.
While the goal of El Rancho Deluxe is still to do recording and support services for performers, it’s also grown into a whole mess o’ projects that focus on highlighting local talent wherever it is. In the process of doing that, a lot was learned about how to develop communities and create events that give back to the place where you live.
These efforts and experiments are presented here, for your entertainment. Along the way, you might meet some special people and be inclined to join in on the movement as it develops and spreads out. If you nose around the site, you’ll see different projects that aim at the goal of promoting and supporting local musicians; as well as a bit of proselytizing about creating community and other such things through music.
